The replacement of real Christmas trees with plastic ones has become worryingly common.
People think this is good for environment as real trees will be saved.
In a way this is true.

However, the plastic trees are made of polyvinylcholide which is not at all good for the environment! (Especially as people tend to discard them after a few years when they lose their charm!). After disposing of an artificial tree, it will lay in landfills for centuries!

The UK produces hundreds of acres of Christmas trees every year which are grown for purpose, and are earth friendly when disposed of correctly as they are biodegradable. (And we can help get rid of them for you in the New Year with our Sue Ryder tree-cycling campaign! )

Now, of course, we’re not here to tell you how to celebrate your festive period, but aim to arm you with some helpful facts below about having a real tree in your home this yuletide so you can make an informed Christmas choice!

BENEFITS OF REAL TREES

  • Picking out a real tree is an experience the whole family can enjoy…create magical memories for years to come.
  • Real Christmas trees are usually fragrant, and the aroma spreads around the house, helping to lift up spirits and clean the air.
  • Some live trees also have the ability to protect against sinus infections, clear mucus, phlegm, cure skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, boost the immune system, fight fungal, and viral infections, stimulate the mind and body.
  • Cedar Christmas trees have an earthy aroma which can be very soothing. The aroma helps to clear nerve tension, anxiety and has been in use for ADHD. The smell can help with hypertension and insomnia. The fumes from the cedar releases congestion, and reduces bronchitis. It also repels moths, fleas and mosquitoes and other types of flies and insects.
  • Just one Christmas tree can absorb 1 ton of CO2 during its lifetime and with over 350 million trees growing at any one time, you can imagine the benefits.
  • 1 acre of Christmas trees provides enough oxygen for 18 people every day.
  • Christmas trees are able to grow on soil that is unfit for other crops.
  • Sustainable farming techniques provide a healthy supply of Christmas Trees. At tree farms, when a tree is cut down, it is immediately replaced with another.
